The San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts were a couple minutes away from giving us the first tie of the 2017 season, but Adam Vinatieri snatched away a victory with a 51-yard field goal to give the Colts a 26-23 win.

Vinatieri, 44, passed Gary Anderson for second all-time in successful field goals with the winner, which was his fourth made kick of the game. He’s now just 26 field goals behind Hall of Famer Morten Andersen for the record.
The kick was also Vinatieri’s 27th career game-winner in his incredible career and the 11th successful field goal in overtime.
Indianapolis came close to winning earlier in overtime with a 46-yard pass from Jacoby Brissett to T.Y. Hilton that set the team up inside the 10-yard line. It was the first possession of overtime, so a field goal wouldn’t have won the game without San Francisco first getting a chance to score, but Brissett threw an interception that negated the scoring chance completely.
After stuffing the 49ers, the Colts got another chance when running back Marlon Mack broke free for 35 yards. While the rest of the drive didn’t go anywhere, it didn’t have to, thanks to the always reliable Vinatieri who boosted the Colts to 2-3 on the year.
