Blake Bortles felt he was in a position to give another quarterback advice

DeShone Kizer should ... hear him but perhaps not listen.

DeShone Kizer has had a rough rookie season with the Browns. They have yet to win a football game, and head coach Hue Jackson has benched him several times, only to make him the starter again.

You would imagine advice from a veteran quarterback would be welcome. Except — for when it comes from Blake Bortles.

Bortles’ advice starts off pretty “no duh” as well: “Try to throw it to your team as much as possible.” Kizer has thrown 12 interceptions on the season, against just four touchdowns.

“It’s tough,” Bortles added. “I’ve done it for a couple years and I think any quarterback will tell you that’s the biggest thing. You watch guys every week that have been playing in the NFL for a long time and still kind of make bad decisions and bad throws. It’s something that I think is a constant battle. The great ones are the ones that do it as little as possible.”

Bortles hasn’t been great over the course of his career, to be plain. He showed some promise in his second season after throwing for over 4,400 yards with 35 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, but never improved off that.

This season, he’s largely been the reason the Jaguars are only 6-3 with the NFL’s most ferocious defense. He’s thrown for 1,930 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions, completing under 59 percent of his passes.

But a guy who, well, isn’t really liked by his teammates perhaps isn’t the best player to take advice from:

While Kizer has had his own struggles, he is coming off one of his best games of the season against the Lions. He’ll have a chance to carry that momentum into Week 11 when the Browns play Bortles’ Jaguars, though a hungry Tashaun Gipson is waiting to pick Kizer off.

But he should take any type of advice from Bortles with a grain of salt.
