Steelers got an extra 10 yards on an Antonio Brown fumble because the referees missed a rule

The ol’ Holy Roller.

The Pittsburgh Steelers benefited from a gift from the officials on Thursday night against the Titans.

Antonio Brown caught a Ben Roethlisberger pass on a second-and-10 from the Pittsburgh 41. He advanced 17 yards before fumbling the football. Martavis Bryant then recovered the football 10 yards forward.

On a fumble, the ball cannot be advanced under two minutes left in a half, or on fourth down. After a spike, Roethlisberger threw two incompletions, forcing them to kick a field goal from 50 yards out. The kick was good, but it should have never happened.

In football, that’s called the “Holy Roller.” It happened in 1978 when a Raiders fumble turned into a touchdown to beat the San Diego Chargers.

The Steelers went into the half up 16-7, and if those three points end up costing the Titans, we’ll be hearing about that play for the rest of the week, and into Week 12.
