Steve Kerr wishes the media would stop covering LaVar Ball and Donald Trump

We can’t blame him.

Steve Kerr has used his platform as head coach of the Golden State Warriors to express political opinions in the past year, but before a game on Sunday, Kerr remarked how tired he was of hearing about President Donald Trump and fellow loudmouth LaVar Ball.

“It would help if all of you just stopped covering both of them,” Kerr said.

“Modern life people, you know. People seeking attention and they’re both getting it. I’m sure both guys are really happy. You know it would help if all of you just stopped covering both of them. Is that possible? You could probably stop covering LaVar. I don’t think you can stop covering the president. It would be nice for both of us if both of them would just be quiet. Wouldn’t that be great?”

Kerr is reacting to Trump’s latest tweet, where he said he should have left LiAngelo Ball and the other two UCLA basketball players in Chinese jail after they were detained on shoplifting charges. (Those charges were eventually dropped.) Here was his full tweet:

After the players were arrested, Trump had reportedly gotten involved to help expedite the process and make sure the players returned to the United States. All three players thanked Trump for his involvement, but last Wednesday, Trump tweeted this:

Kerr’s request, then, is understandable, and I understand the irony of writing yet another post about someone asking for less coverage of this very topic. The concept of journalism and how to properly cover subjects who are begging for attention is one that’s better suited for a proper media critic, but at a surface level, we can all agree with Kerr. This is a ridiculous story that should have already concluded, and yet now the president of the United States is feuding with the outspoken father of a Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard. That’s a sentence that could only find its home in the year 2017.

Good riddance to it all.
