The Atlanta Falcons moved into a new home this season with Mercedes-Benz Stadium opening its doors in August, but that left the 71,000-seat Georgia Dome uninhabited next door. On Monday, that problem will be solved with a demolition of the 25-year-old stadium.

The Georgia Dome served as the home of the Falcons for 25 seasons, but will come down Monday morning.

The Georgia Dome’s doors opened in 1992 with the Falcons serving as the stadium’s main tenant. It also hosted the Peach Bowl annually, the Celebration Bowl, 1996 Olympics competitions, and served as the home of the Georgia State Panthers recently.
Atlanta’s brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium cost $1.6 billion to build and hosts Atlanta United FC as well as the Falcons. It will be the new home of the Peach Bowl and Celebration Bowl and will host Super Bowl LIII in February 2019.
The site of the Georgia Dome will be transformed into a green space that will be used for parking and tailgating prior to games and community events on other days.
