Georgia Dome implosion video: watch Falcons’ former home be destroyed in Atlanta

Watch Atlanta say goodbye to its domed home for the past 25 years.

The city of Atlanta said farewell to the Georgia Dome on Monday morning after 25 years of service to the Atlanta Falcons, Peach Bowl, Georgia State Panthers, and countless other events since 1992.

The implosion took place at 7:30 a.m. ET, when nearly 5,000 pounds of explosives took down the stadium in 15 seconds, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

If you look to the Dome’s left, that is indeed Atlanta’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. There’s only 83 feet that separate the two, but there was a five-story industrial-strength curtain to shield the new house from damages, per the AJC.

The Georgia Dome was a nice facility that many in metro Atlanta have near and dear memories in, but Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a nice upgrade that everyone will enjoy.

In place of the Dome will be the Home Depot Backyard, which will host game-day extravaganzas, unique arts, entertainment, and more for pregame fun at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

For now, we bid farewell to the Georgia Dome.
