Bill Belichick is just happy the Patriots avoided earthquakes and volcanoes in Mexico

Bill Belichick definitely prepares for everything.

The New England Patriots’ trip to Mexico resulted in an easy 33-8 win over the Oakland Raiders, but Bill Belichick didn’t find the experience too comfortable. On Monday, he told WEEI that he was a little worried about the possibility of natural disasters.

“Players did a great job dealing with all the challenges that we had to deal with,” Belichick said on Dale & Holley with Keefe. “I think we’re fortunate there was no volcano eruptions, earthquakes or anything else while we were down there. I mean you have two NFL franchises in an area that I don’t know how stable the geological plates that were below us [were], but nothing happened so that was good.”

Uhh ... well OK, yeah that’s good.

Maybe he was joking about how heavy an NFL roster is, but with Belichick it’s never really easy to tell. His comment about volcanoes, earthquakes and tectonic plates came during a lengthy rant about the difficulties of the road trip.

Mexico City does have a volcano, Popocatépetl, nearby, and the Patriots had a better chance of experiencing an earthquake there than they do in New England. But no, it probably wasn’t something Belichick needed to worry about. You can’t knock his preparation, though.
