Kevin Durant says it’s not about him and Russell Westbrook

Yeah ... right.

After Kevin Durant butt heads with Russell Westbrook in his return to Oklahoma City Wednesday night, the reigning NBA Finals MVP says the attention shouldn’t be on him and his former teammate.

“It’s not about me and Russ,” he said to ESPN’s Chris Haynes after Golden State lost to Oklahoma City. “It’s about the Thunder and the Warriors. Myself and Russ are competing out there. That’s part of the game. It’s basketball. It’s not about us. We’re just playing the game, and trash talking is part of it. That’s all it is.”

Durant and Westbrook met head-to-head in the third quarter of the Thunder’s 108-91 win over the Warriors. It was the second time the two got into a shouting match since Durant left Oklahoma City two summers ago.

The two also gave fans another moment when Westbrook tried to interrupt Durant’s high-fives after making a free throw.

Durant and Westbrook tried to make it about everything else other than themselves. Westbrook said he’s just going out and competing every night, that he’s “coming at your neck every single night,” post-game to ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth. He just wanted Durant to know that.

“That’s all part of the game,” Durant responded to Haynes. “It happens. That’s it. It should be about the game, not us.”

Either way, these guys have beef no matter what they say.
