Behold Mike Francesa’s glorious rage at the Giants for benching Eli Manning

Cheer up, Eli Manning. Mike Francesa has your back.

The WFAN radio host filled the New York airwaves with an impassioned defense of the longtime Giants quarterback after it was announced on Tuesday that he would be benched for Geno Smith in Week 13. In an instant-classic monologue, Francesa also thoroughly excoriated the franchise’s head coach, Ben McAdoo, and general manager, Jerry Reese, for making the decision.

On Giants head coach Ben McAdoo:

“You can’t run this clown out of town fast enough. The worst thing that ever happened was Eli Manning had to be associated with you as head coach with the career he’s had here. Maybe on your way out you can take a look at Eli’s rings — that’s the closest you’re ever going to get to one too with actions like this. You’re going to try to tell us that Geno Smith is the answer? That’s the problem with this team now is the quarterback after what we’ve watched this year?”

The decision to start Smith against the Raiders on Sunday will end Manning’s consecutive start streak at 210 games. The Giants enter Week 13 with a 2-9 record.

On Giants general manager Jerry Reese:

“Jerry Reese’s career is built on Eli Manning. His success in those two games is the only reason Jerry Reese has got a career. He doesn’t have a career ’cause of what he’s drafted here. He’s got a career because he won two Super Bowls won by Eli Manning, who went on the road and won all those playoff games and who won the Super Bowl MVP twice by beating the Patriots. Without that Jerry Reese is unemployed. Without that, none of those guys walk around that room with the swagger that they have. It’s built on his back! And you’re going to try and tell us that you got a better chance to win any game with Geno Smith over Eli Manning?”
