Classic

Gun Runner beat co-favorite Arrogate for the first time in four head-to-head races to win the the 1¼-mile Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Turf

Talismanic, at 14-1 odds, led a furious charge down the stretch to win the 1½-mile, $4 million Breeders’ Cup Turf race, beating out Beach Patrol and defending Turf champion Highland Reel. It was the second Breeders’ Cup Turf win for trainer Andre Fabre, who also trained Shirocco in 2005.

Morning-line favorite Ulysses was scratched.

Juvenile

Good Magic became the first maiden to win a Breeders’ Cup race, pulling away in the $2 million Juvenile, winning the 1 1/16-mile race by 5½ lengths.

Jockey Jose Ortiz won his second career Breeders’ Cup win, with Good Magic at 13-1 odds before the race.

Mile

Finally, a favorite prevailed at the Breeders’ Cup. World Approval, a 5-2 favorite, made a move on the outside from the middle of the pack to pull away in the battle of grass milers, the third straight win for the 5-year-old.

Twinspires Sprint

Jockey Kent Desormeaux won his sixth career Breeders’ Cup race and his second Twinspires Sprint, 22 years after his first, riding Roy H to victory in the $1.5 million, 6-furlong race, beating out Imperial Hint down the stretch.

This was the second win of the day for trainer Peter Miller, who also saw the winner’s circle with Stormy Liberal earlier Saturday.

Filly & Mare Turf

After an injury-plagued, winless year, Wuheida captured the Filly & Mare Turf at 11-1 odds, outpacing the field of females 3-years-old and up. Wuheida beat Rhododendron by a length in the $1 million race.

“It’s a fantastic horse to ride,” jockey William Buick said on NBCSN. “This means everything.”

Pre-race favorite Lady Eli finished in seventh place, 3¾ lengths back.

Filly & Mare Sprint

Bar of Gold rallied from the back of the pack, overcoming 60-1 odds to beat out favorites Unique Bella and Ami’s Mesa in a photo finish to win the 7-furlong race.

Turf Sprint

Saturday hasn’t been a good day for favorites to start with Lady Aurelia finishing a distant 10th out of 12 horses in the race of 3-year-olds. Stormy Liberal, at 30.2-1 odds, won this 5-furlong race, beating Richard’s Boy by a half-length.
