Baker Mayfield has drawn lovers and haters for his celebrations this season. On Saturday, he contributed to an offensive explosion against Oklahoma State that made for one of the more entertaining games in the Bedlam Series.
Baker Mayfield declares a win over lowly Oklahoma State unworthy of celebration
Good ol’ Baker with another hit.

Mayfield completed 24 of 36 passes with 598 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also had a rushing touchdown on the evening as well in the 62-52 victory.
Despite his outpouring of offense, Mayfield wasn’t as celebratory as he has this season.
The reason? We’ll let Mayfield tell it:
Mayfield celebrates hard, because he always earns it. Last season, he set the all-time FBS record for passing efficiency. This season, he’s currently No. 2 all-time behind... himself.
He started off the season with a bang after beating Ohio State in Columbus. He celebrated that victory by attempting to plant Oklahoma’s flag in the middle of Ohio State’s block-O at the middle of the field.
The following week, he said prior to the team’s game against Baylor, “You forgot who daddy is. I’m gonna have to spank you today.” Oklahoma won that game 49-41, with Mayfield having 283 yards and three touchdowns.
After winning the Red River Shootout against Texas, Mayfield waited to get the coveted golden hat, and galloped off the field with it:
By the time the Sooners’ game against Texas Tech rolled around, he stepped his game up by walking into the stadium with anti-Mayfield shirts from 2016. In that game, he threw an Oklahoma record of seven passing touchdowns in a 66-59 win.
The lesson here: Don’t get into an offensive back and forth with him — he won’t lose.
By not celebrating “excessively” and delivering the line about expecting to beat one of their biggest rivals is the only thing Mayfield needed to do. He still got his point around that he beat his opponent — it just came in a verbal demonstration instead of physical.
