When fog in New England forced NBC to find an alternate way to show action between the Patriots and Falcons on the Oct. 22 broadcast, the network switched to its SkyCam system. The broadcast was so successful that NBC has now announced it will make that the primary viewing angle for the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Nov. 16.
NBC listened to fans and will use SkyCam as main angle for Titans vs. Steelers
Coverage of the foggy New England game was awesome, and this should be cool too.

“We are excited to present a game with the majority of live-action coverage coming from SkyCam,” NBC executive producer Fred Gaudelli said in a press release. “After pivoting out of necessity to SkyCam in the New England fog, we’ve been aggressively planning and testing with the intent of utilizing the system for a full game.
“Younger generations of NFL fans have grown accustomed to watching football from this angle through their love of video games. This telecast will have a look and feel akin to that experience.”
When NBC made the switch to the SkyCam in New England, it was done mostly out of necessity, but the new viewing experience drew rave reviews from those watching. And the network actually listened.
What viewers can expect to see in Pittsburgh is a game that looks more like Madden than the traditional angle from high up on the sideline:
SkyCam has existed for a long time now, but it has evolved over the years and the addition of a second camera makes this broadcast a possibility. There will likely be situations where the traditional angle provides the best look, and NBC will be prepared for that too.
It’s too early to say for sure if this is the future of NFL camera angles, but it very well may be and NBC looks to be ahead of the curve for tinkering with an old broadcast formula.
