Richard Sherman suffered a ruptured Achilles against the Cardinals on Thursday in the third quarter of the game. Sherman would be replaced with Jeremy Lane.

Sherman was listed on the Seahawks’ injury report with an Achilles injury during the week, and aggravated the same injury.

The Seahawks’ staff started to bring out the training cart to take him off the field and officially ruled him doubtful to return with a heel injury. He would remain on the sideline, however.

What does this mean for the Seahawks? The Seahawks are losing one of their key pieces to the Legion of Boom. Sherman has been one of the best Seattle defenders during the Pete Carroll era, and losing him would be big.

Replay on the game’s broadcast showed Sherman telling others that he believed he tore his Achilles. If that’s the case, Jeremy Lane will have some big shoes to fill for the remainder of Seattle’s season.

“He’s one of the best teammates you can ask for, one of the hardest-working guys you’ll ever meet. He’ll do anything for everyone,” quarterback Russell Wilson said after the game on NBC. “It’s unfortunate, because he’s as good as it gets. He’s a Hall of Fame corner. Some guys will have to step up. You can’t replace Richard Sherman, you just can’t do it.”

What does this mean for Sherman? His season is over, but it’s not something that came as a big surprise to him. Sherman said after the game during his presser, “It’s been bothering me all season. It’s one of those things you play through as long as you can, and then when it goes, it goes.” Unfortunately on Thursday night, it went.

He added, “Doctors have been trying to talk me out of playing years. They tried to stop me for many years. They understand that I’m going to go out there and do everything I can to help my team. It’s not about anything but that. I owe it to those guys, and I gave it everything I had.”

Sherman was understandably emotional as his press conference ended. He’ll now have to be a leader for his team from the sideline as they try to keep up with the Rams in the NFC West.
