Richard Sherman in tears after discussing his season-ending ruptured Achilles

Sherman fought through the injury the entire season. It finally gave in.

The Seattle Seahawks knocked off the Arizona Cardinals Thursday night to improve to 6-3 on the season and keep pressure on the Rams in the NFC West. But it didn’t come without a tragic price.

Richard Sherman suffered a ruptured Achilles in the second half of the game. He was seen on the sideline telling teammates that he had torn it and would be out for the season. At his press conference after the game, Sherman became emotional when talking about it:

NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz mentioned how everyone was feeling down for Sherman and didn’t quite finish his question. Sherman said while choking up, “Just gotta stay positive.”

Earlier in the press conference, Sherman said of the injury, “It’s been bothering me all season. It’s one of those things you play through as long as you can, and then when it goes, it goes.”

He also said, “Doctors have been trying to talk me out of playing years. They tried to stop me for many years. They understand that I’m going to go out there and do everything I can to help my team. It’s not about anything but that. I owe it to those guys, and I gave it everything I had.”

Jeremy Lane replaced Sherman in the game, but the Seahawks will be missing one of their key pieces from the Legion of Boom as they hope to catch the Rams and contend in the NFC moving forward.
