Kristaps Porzingis leaves Knicks game with ‘sore left knee,’ per team

Porzingis will not return to the game.

Kristaps Porzingis left Thursday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with a non-contact knee injury and was eventually ruled out for the rest of the game with a “sore left knee,” according to the Knicks.

Here’s the play where it happened.

Here he is headed to the locker room under his own power.

After the game, Porzingis seemed optimistic.

Porzingis missed a couple games earlier this season with a nasty-looking ankle injury that fortunately turned out to not be that serious. Porzingis also had an illness during that timespan. Otherwise, he has played 24 of the 28 games so far, although he has now left two of them early.

This has been Porzingis’ best season yet, averaging 26 points on 46.4 percent shooting for the Knicks. He’s only pulling down about seven rebounds per game, but he’s blocking almost 2.2 shots per game, which is second best in the league.

Hopefully, this is a precautionary situation for Porzingis rather than anything serious. He alone has made the Knicks a watchable team.

The Knicks still beat Brooklyn 111-104 on Thursday despite Porzingis’ injury.
