Grant was smart to realize the game clock was all but expired, leaving him no option. But I truly believe Grant would have pulled off this play regardless, once he realized that he had been left wide open and so close to the basket. (Reminder: the traveling rule is flexible in the NBA, but if you get up from the floor while you have possession of the ball, that’s an automatic call.)
This play reminds me of this one — not quite as improbable, but just a creative measure of someone making something when it looks like literally nothing was happening for them.
