There were only two games Wednesday at the 2018 World Junior Championships, but Canada’s 6-0 beatdown of Slovakia gave us no shortage of fun moments. The Canadians are now 2-0 after two days in Buffalo and look well-positioned to potentially make a run later on.
2018 World Juniors: Canada dominates Slovakia for 2nd straight win
Canada racked up six goals in a dominant performance Wednesday night.

Goaltender Colton Point, a 2016 fifth-round pick by the Stars, made 20 saves for Canada in the win. Canucks prospect Jonah Gadjovich scored twice, and forward Jordan Kyrou (Blues) and defenseman Victor Mete (Canadiens) each recorded multi-point performances.
Gadjovich and Kyrou each had nine shots on goal, which meant Slovakia goalie David Hrenik was extremely busy. He had 46 saves on 52 shots (.885 save percentage) in the loss.
In the other game of the day, Switzerland opened its tournament by handing Belarus a second straight defeat. The Swiss team likely won’t be nearly as dangerous without Nico Hischier in this tournament, but they scored twice in the third period to rally from a 2-1 deficit to earn the win. Flyers prospect Maxim Sushko had two points and six shots on goal for Belarus.
Final scores
Canada 6, Slovakia 0
Switzerland 3, Belarus 2
Jordan Kyrou (STL) slices up the Slovakia defense for a goal
Maxime Comtois (ANA) goes for the filthy backhander
A scary moment for Jake Bean (CAR)
Lots of fans around Canada (and Carolina) were likely holding their breath after this play involving defenseman Jake Bean.
Thankfully, he returned to the game later on because the Canadians could ill afford his absence with Kale Clague (LAK) and Dante Fabbro (NSH) already nursing injuries. Clague missed the game Wednesday with a right foot injury.
