Miami Dolphins pass rusher Cameron Wake recovered from an Achilles injury suffered in 2015 to rack up 11.5 sacks and a trip to the Pro Bowl a year later. His impressive comeback from a serious injury earned him a two-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2019 season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the extension adds two years and $19 million to Wake’s contract that was set to expire after the 2017 season for which he was scheduled to make $7 million.

Wake, 35, signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2005 but didn’t make the team and instead began his professional football career two years later with the CFL’s BC Lions.

After back-to-back CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player awards, Wake signed with the Dolphins in 2009 and in his eight seasons with the team, he has made five Pro Bowls and tallied 81.5 sacks. He’s behind only Jason Taylor in sacks in franchise history.

With the extension, it appears that Wake’s unlikely and impressive NFL career will begin and end in Miami.
