New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee had some practical advice for NFL hopefuls headed to the combine this week: Don’t put too much stock in meetings with teams, because they already know who they’re picking.
Cowboys met with Darron Lee at last year’s combine to get a scouting report on Joey Bosa
There was virtually no chance Lee was being drafted by Dallas at No. 4.

Lee shared an interesting anecdote from a meeting he had last year with Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett:
Lee was selected by the Jets with the 20th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. Unless he fell to the second round, which was unlikely, he wouldn’t have been a target for the Cowboys.
Even Lee knows that was the case.
Joey Bosa, Lee’s college teammate at Ohio State, was linked to the Cowboys, however.
With DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory both facing suspensions to start the 2016 season, it would have been a nice opportunity for Bosa.
“It would be a great place to end up,” Bosa said before the draft, via Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram. “I feel like I’d fit really well. They’re missing two guys for four games, maybe more, I’m not exactly sure. I feel like that would be a great fit for me.”
The Chargers ended up selecting Bosa with the third overall pick, just before the Cowboys took Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4. Elliott, another college teammate of Lee and Bosa, was spectacular in 2016. He racked up a league-leading 1,631 yards on the ground along with 15 touchdowns.
The Cowboys could have used the pass rush help, though. Despite missing the first four games of the season, Bosa finished his rookie year with 10.5 sacks and a forced fumble, which earned him Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Lee has been a good fit for the Jets. He totaled 73 tackles, good for second on the team, and one sack in his rookie season. Elliott has been a star for the Cowboys, and Bosa looks like a defensive cornerstone for the Chargers. It’s safe to say that everything worked out all around.
