The 2016 season has had its share of controversy ever since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during preseason national anthem performances.
Super Bowl 51 prop bets: No players kneel down during national anthem
The anthem protests that have marked the 2016 season were not seen during the national anthem at Super Bowl 51.
Kaepernick spent the entire season taking a knee in protest against mistreatment of African Americans. Since he started taking a knee, players around the league have offered up protests such as taking a knee, raising a fist, or locking arms with teammates.
Super Bowl 51 did not see any such sign of protest during the national anthem. The cameras were on the players, but nobody offered up a protest. It is not a surprise given how buttoned up the league keeps things on such a big event. It has been a fairly quiet week in Houston, and thus far it is carrying over into the game.
If you are one to wager on Super Bowl prop bets, you won money if you bet that nobody would take a knee. Bovada.lv offered up a prop bet asking if any player on either roster would be seen kneeling during the anthem. “No” was the favorite, at -200 (1/2 odds), while “Yes” was the underdog at +150.
