Deion Jones tore the ball right from LeGarrette Blount’s hands to force the 1st fumble of Super Bowl 51

Momentum may be swinging in the Falcons’ favor.

Jeanna Kelley
Jeanna Kelley has been covering the Falcons for The Falcoholic since 2011 and the NFL for SB Nation since 2015.

The Atlanta Falcons’ young defense created an opportunity in the second quarter of a scoreless Super Bowl 51 when Deion Jones forced LeGarrette Blount to fumble and Robert Alford recovered it.

The Patriots were driving when Jones stripped the ball from Blount. Alford recovered the fumble on the Atlanta 29-yard line.

It’s been a defensive battle so far despite the fact that the offenses for both teams tend to get more attention. Atlanta’s defense is young, but the two things it has done well this season have been rushing the passer and creating turnovers. With two sacks on Tom Brady and this big fumble recovery, those trends are continuing in Super Bowl LI.
