The Patriots are trying everything in the Super Bowl, even trick punt returns

It didn’t work.

Jeanna Kelley has been covering the Falcons for The Falcoholic since 2011 and the NFL for SB Nation since 2015.

The New England Patriots pulled out all the stops and tried everything to get into the end zone against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Bill Belichick even attempted a trick punt return out of the special teams playbook.

Julian Edelman ran up the middle to pull Atlanta’s coverage toward himself, while another Patriots player tried to run it back along the sideline.

It’s something that worked for the then-St. Louis Rams in 2014 against the Seattle Seahawks. It didn’t work for the Patriots.
