The Atlanta Falcons coaches who spent the game in the coaches’ box far above NRG Stadium had a bad night, to say the least. As if losing a Super Bowl in historic fashion weren’t enough, those coaches got stuck upstairs, surrounded by jubilant Patriots fans, after the crushing loss.
Falcons coaches were trapped on the concourse by celebrating Patriots fans
Ouch.

After the game, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and other Falcons assistants waited for an elevator on the press box level of NRG Stadium. The elevators never came, according to Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Typically in any stadium, the elevators will be held for coaching staff to get to the locker rooms following any game. This time, the elevators in Houston were occupied, carrying fans instead.
The coaching staff was told to wait, but after more than five minutes passed, NRG Stadium staff told the assistant coaches they would be better off just to walk to the locker rooms. So they did walk, and found themselves surrounded by excited Patriots fans, and surely some sad Falcons fans, also.
They ended up finding another elevator and getting out of the fray, but after several minutes of that hellish scenario had passed. Shanahan wasn’t happy.
“This is (bleeping) bull,” Shanahan yelled, according to Schultz.
He took a moment to pull himself together.
“Sorry, I can’t talk right now,” Shanahan said.
This Falcons coaching staff was a part of a historic Super Bowl implosion, one that featured Atlanta blowing a 25-point lead to lose to the Patriots in overtime. If you had to pick the worst possible way to deal with the aftermath of a loss like that, this might be it.
