Atlanta children were late to school because of ‘Falcons depression’

Rough day for Falcons fans.

Jeanna Kelley
Jeanna Kelley has been covering the Falcons for The Falcoholic since 2011 and the NFL for SB Nation since 2015.

Monday morning was rough for the Atlanta metro area, as its citizens were forced to face their normal weekday routine under the crushing weight of the Falcons’ collapse in Super Bowl 51.

It was especially difficult for Atlanta area schoolchildren, some of whom were late to school on Monday, and understandably so. The game went into overtime for the first time in Super Bowl history, so it was a late night.

It was a sad night, too. The Falcons blew a 25-point lead and lost 34-28 to the New England Patriots.

Students at Atlanta Christian School in Gwinnett County provided very good reasons for being late to school on Monday.

One child was late because he or she “failed to rise up.” You know what, kid? So did the Falcons.

Another child attributed their tardiness to “Falcons depression.” The child who signed in immediately after was apparently too depressed to even write out the words, choosing instead to just use quotation marks to indicate the same reason.

Students at this particular school, about 25 minutes from the Falcons’ training facility in Flowery Branch, Ga., had plenty of reasons to be heartbroken on Monday. The children of one Falcons player and an assistant coach attend Atlanta Christian, according to Amanda C. Coyne of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
