Tom Brady told Gisele ‘too bad, babe’ when she wanted him to retire after Super Bowl 51

Leading up to the Super Bowl, you could throw down a prop bet on whether Tom Brady would retire after the game. On Monday, the Patriots quarterback told the world that was a sucker’s bet.

“If it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today,” Brady told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “She told me that last night three times. And I said, ‘Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.’ You know, I feel like I can still do it, and if you love what you do and you’re capable of doing it, then, I mean, I’d be so bored if I wasn’t going out there, knowing that I could still do it. So, I’m going to work hard to be ready to go and I still plan on playing for a long time.”

Brady’s 2016 season was one of his finest. He finished second in the league’s MVP voting despite missing the first four games of the year thanks to a dubious suspension handed down by the league. When he returned, he led New England to a 11-1 regular season campaign while setting an NFL record for best touchdown-to-interception ratio for a season (28:2).

His masterful performance at age 39 was capped Sunday when he won his fourth Super Bowl MVP Award. Brady threw for a Super Bowl record 466 yards while leading the Patriots back from a 28-3 deficit in a thrilling 34-28 overtime victory.

Brady will be the oldest quarterback in the league next fall, but has no intention of hanging up his cleats. News broke before the big game that New England executives would be working to extend the veteran’s contract for up to five more seasons. That would push the two-time NFL MVP up to his age-44 season and make third-year passer Jimmy Garoppolo — who went 2-0 with a 113.3 passer rating in Brady’s absence in 2016 — a tradeable asset.

Brady’s wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, will have to endure another season where her husband is forced to work weekends. On the bright side, at least she’ll have more opportunities to take frenzied selfies of her celebrations at Pats games.
