The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed guard Lance Stephenson to a 10-day contract, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania. The signing addresses Minnesota’s need for backcourt help after Zach LaVine’s season-ending ACL injury.

The Wolves need backcourt help, but how will Stephenson mesh with Tom Thibodeau?

Stephenson played six games with the New Orleans Pelicans this season, averaging 9.7 points and 4.8 assists per game before suffering a groin injury that required surgery. The Pelicans later waived him, and the 6’5 combo guard last worked out for the Cleveland Cavaliers in early February.
Stephenson, at times, has been a dynamic playmaker, highlighted by his breakout season with the 2013-14 Indiana Pacers team that made the Eastern Conference Finals. But his production has tapered since, with the Timberwolves now becoming his fifth team in three seasons.
Regardless, the 26-year-old guard will add depth to a depleted Minnesota backcourt that features Brandon Rush as the only full-time shooting guard with LaVine’s injury. Stephenson, a capable ball handler, can also double as a playmaking point guard alongside Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn.
