Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the team will not franchise tag defensive tackle Brandon Williams, according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. He will now hit free agency on March 9.
John Harbaugh said Ravens won’t franchise tag run-stopper Brandon Williams
The 28-year-old defensive tackle will head into free agency.

The 28-year-old out of Missouri Southern State has played in all 16 games over the last three years, recording at least 51 combined tackles in each season.
Earlier in February, Williams went on Sirius XM Radio and noted that he wouldn’t be opposed to the tag — though he’d rather sign a long-term deal if possible.
“I know the numbers of a franchise tag, so that’s not a bad amount of money for one year,” Williams said, via The Baltimore Sun. “It is what it is. If it happens, it happens. Pretty much, I just get to re-up with my team again for another year. I just want to play football. That’s what matters to me and just taking care of my family.”
Williams was no doubt a key player for the Ravens at nose tackle — especially with Baltimore allowing the fourth-fewest yard per rush (3.7). He was the catalyst of their defensive line and clogged up rushing lanes.
Williams should be a hot commodity during free agency because he is an excellent run-stopper with strength and speed. He is a proven player in the NFL, but the only question is whether Baltimore will re-sign him or will he take his talents to another team?
