Running back Tre Mason, who was drafted in the third round in the 2014 NFL draft by the then-St. Louis Rams, was released today by the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez.

Mason did not see the field during the 2016 season stemming from legal issues, and did not show up for training camp. He was reported “missing” by TMZ on Aug. 1, but was eventually found unhurt. The most recent incident involved Mason recklessly driving an ATV in Florida.

After the 2015 season, Mason did not contact his teammates or coaches during the offseason. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said this:

”I haven’t personally spoken with Tre since the season ended. I tried numerous times to reach him. Tre has made a decision not to communicate with us, not to talk. Not talking to his teammates. Right now we’re more concerned about Tre Mason’s well-being than we are his football career.”

Over the offseason, Mason had been in a few run-ins with the police. The 22-year-old’s mother, Tina Mason, told the police that her son was “acting unusual and making irrational statements.”

Mason told the officers that “the police were responsible for teaching al-Qaida how to fly planes” and that he must warn the White House that “we were all going to lose our jobs.”

In August, officers went to Mason’s house and discovered a broken lamp and a hole in the wall in his bedroom. They said he was not “to make decisions” for himself at the time. So, the police took him to the hospital for observation.
