Washington is just a day removed from firing GM Scot McCloughan and NFL Network’s draft analyst Mike Mayock has reportedly emerged as a candidate to replace him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter also reports that ESPN’s Mark Dominik is also on Washington’s radar.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock reportedly a candidate to become Washington’s GM
The draft analyst is on Washington’s radar.

The position wouldn’t be the first one that Mayock has interviewed for in the NFL:
Mayock would release a statement, denying the report:
He played three seasons in the NFL as a safety. One with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1981, and two with the New York Giants in 1982 and 1983.
Mayock has been with NFL Network since 2005, and did color commentary for Notre Dame football on NBC with Tom Hammond from 2010 to 2014. From 2011 to 2013, he did Thursday Night Football with Brad Nessler.
If Mayock were to be hired by Washington, it would be somewhat of a risky proposition for the team. His job has been to evaluate players and share insight with NFL Network viewers on who he thinks are the best players in the draft, and give lists by position on how they rank.
To be fair, Mayock wouldn’t be the first GM Washington has hired where that’s happened. McCloughan once joked about scouting a linebacker with a lower grade so that he could draft the player himself.
Schefter would later add that Washington expects to wait until after the draft to officially hire a new GM.
