On Tuesday, Eddie Lacy agreed to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, ending his tenure in Green Bay after four seasons.
Eddie Lacy is reportedly weighing 267 pounds, and that’s just fine
Lacy has shown he can play at a greater weight.

Over the years, the biggest criticism of Lacy has been his weight. According to Bob McGinn, he weighed in particularly heavy while visiting one team:
That sounds like a lot of weight for any man, even an NFL running back. Lacy stands at 5’11, but if we’re being honest, his 267-pound body is much different than our 267-pound body would be. Not to mention that no matter what he’s weighing nowadays, the Seahawks were still willing to sign him to a $5.55 million deal.
That new deal also apparently comes with incentives to lose weight:
He even played around that weight last year. ESPN reported in October of 2016 that Lacy had returned to a 255-to-265-pound frame. It also makes a good point in that his injuries over the past couple of seasons have not been tied to his weight.
That 265-pound frame didn’t stop him from hurdling Cowboys defenders last season:
Pete Carroll doesn’t sound too worried about his weight, either. “He’s a big back. He’s a big guy,” Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle. “Ain’t nothing wrong with that. But there will be a real concerted effort to make sure he’s at his very best.”
When a specific weight was asked of Carroll, he said, “He’s a big man. I want him big. I want him big and tough and strong.”
A quick Twitter search will reveal that Lacy has earned a new nickname in Seattle — FeastMode. He’s a bruising back playing for Marshawn Lynch’s (BeastMode) former team, who Seahawks fans will hope have a similar impact.
Sure, Lacy’s weight isn’t necessarily typical of a running back, but he gets the job done. In his first two seasons in the league, he rushed for over 1,100 yards each season, and had a combined 20 touchdowns.
If he can manage to stay healthy and Seattle’s offensive line improves next season, don’t be surprised if he’s hurdling and running through defenders just as he did in Green Bay at the same weight.
