The Rex Ryan era in Buffalo didn’t end the way he wanted after his firing, but the now-former Bills coach has a new job with ESPN, the network announced on Monday.
Rex Ryan officially joins ESPN for ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’
The former head coach has a new gig.

In September, Ryan will make weekly appearances on Sunday NFL Countdown. He will make his ESPN debut on Saturday, April 8, where he will call the Florida State spring game.
Ryan said in ESPN’s release, “This is going to be a new experience for me and I am really excited about it. I’ve been a coach for 30 years and I’ve been around football my entire life. I’m passionate about the game – just like the fans are, and I’ve coached in the league for a long time, so that’s the perspective I will bring to ESPN. I’m just going to show up and be myself and have fun with it.”
Ryan joined the show to help break down Super Bowl LI. “Rex is a great personality and has a unique perspective,” Seth Markman, ESPN senior coordinating producer told Sports Business Daily back in January. “He knows the Patriots really well. He’s raring to go.”
Ryan is coming off of a pair of AFC East head coaching positions that both resulted in his firing. He took the New York Jets to the AFC Championship Game in 2009 and 2010, but followed that up with four seasons with no record better than 8-8. He was fired after the 2014 season.
Buffalo hired him that offseason, and led the Bills to an 8-8 record in 2015, and a 7-8 record in 2016 before being fired a week prior to the end of the season.
