Kamar Aiken is the Colts’ latest low-risk, high-reward free agent addition

After a disappointing season, the veteran receiver signs with the Colts where he’ll get the chance to replace draft bust Phillip Dorsett.

Coming off of a year self-described as “frustrating,” Kamar Aiken signed a new one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts for on Tuesday, according to his agent. Aiken leaves the Ravens after a rocky three-year stint with the team.

Slotting in behind T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief, Aiken will be a nice complementary option for Andrew Luck in the passing game.

The move is part of an offseason theme for the Colts this year, signing low-cost free agents to patch over the more expensive busts from free agency and the draft that were a regular part of the offseason under former GM Ryan Grigson. Aiken should provide an instant upgrade over Phillip Dorsett, who’s been a bust since being picked in the first round two years ago.

Aiken joined the Ravens from New England in 2014, and played a role in the team’s run to the AFC championship that year. In 2015 he had a career year, taking over as the team’s top receiver after injuries decimated the Ravens receiving corps. He caught 75 passes for 944 yards and scored five touchdowns, all career highs. He ended up sliding right back down the depth chart in 2016, though, and was the Ravens’ fourth option at receiver last year.

The receiver caught only 29 passes for 328 yards. Aiken mentioned to reporters at the end of last season that he was “happy and looking forward to” hitting free agency, signaling the end to his Ravens career.
