After last year’s historic, enormous Verbie Awards, the ceremony is back to its traditional, intimate roots — a normal podcast episode. That said, we handed out a significant number of awards and tried to figure out:
• Who was 2016’s Bust of the Year? 4-8 Notre Dame? Michigan State after a College Football Playoff appearance the previous year? Another team?
• Who committed the Crime of the Year? A Belk Bowl thief? The perpetrator of Wakeyleaks? The refs who let the end of Central Michigan-Oklahoma State happen?
• What was the Tire Fire of the Year? 4-8 Notre Dame? A less-than-competitive College Football Playoff? Something else?
• Who wore the alternate uniform of the year? Oregon’s mascot replica look? Air Force and their sharktooth look? Another look?
• Which team was the Half Team of the Year? Florida’s defense? Texas Tech’s offense? LSU’s defense?
• Which coach is most deserving of becoming Not Coach of the Year? Brian Kelly? Butch Jones? Charlie Strong?
...and so many more categories?
