Morning Skate: Josh Ho-Sang might get booed or lose a finger in Pittsburgh
Apparently either is possible.

Lace ‘em up. Time for the Morning Skate.
Maybe I should stop writing to you, dear newsletterers, about Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.
When I wrote about Crosby, McDavid went off. And when I wrote about McDavid, Crosby SEVERED A MAN’S FINGER.
No, really.
Please do not click that link and scroll down to the video if A) co-workers are around, B) you haven’t finished breakfast yet or C) if you have finished breakfast but you don’t have a nearby trash can to deposit it in.
The kicker? Crosby wasn’t penalized. I will now accept your hot takes.
PAT PONDERS ON THOUGHTS ON HOCKEY
Once upon a time, a tremendous person on a wonderful website far, far away wrote a little weekly column called “Thoughts on Thoughts.” The idea was simple: Take Elliotte Friedman’s popular “30 Thoughts” article each week and comment on his thoughts. A wormhole.
It’s been years since that column ran, so it’s free intellectual property as far as we’re concerned. Don’t forward this. So every Friday, we’ll do something similar.
We’re still working on the title.
4: It’ll be fascinating to see which diamonds in the rough come out of Vegas’ free-agent signings. There’s a lot more options now with the KHL in the fold than there were for the last expansion. The NHL went to great lengths to make Vegas immediately competitive, and the Golden Knights will have to try really hard to screw that up.
8: Our Senators blog wrote about this, too.
It says something about the NHL and youth that the thing holding up a contract with Colin White is doubts that the coach will even play him, wasting a year of his entry-level contract.
If White is good enough to play in the NHL, he should be given every chance to prove it. NHL coaches are notoriously wary of trusting young players with any ice time ... it’d be a shame for White to make the leap and then get fourth-line or press box minutes for the rest of the year.
10: So much for that Crosby-McDavid two-horse Hart Trophy race, huh? You could make great cases for five players now. More on that later today.
11: Friedman’s right: if we covered every posturing statement from the NHL on the Olympics, everyone would tune out. That’s why we’re not. Let’s wait for real news.
13: Imagine the chaotic uproar if Ottawa’s owner accidentally drives Karlsson out of town. Imagine.
22: Wait, so athletes read what we write about them? Oh no.
SO WHO’S PAYING FOR THIS
A Predators forward made a bad pass ... and shot a hole into the scoreboard. That’s a first.
Speaking of the Olympics (you know, like 10 paragraphs above), we’re tracking every NHL player who publicly supports going to South Korea in 2018. The list is already pretty long with big names and is bound to get longer.
Another night, another suspension.

AROUND THE NETWORK WE GO
Josh Ho-Sang and his (somehow) controversial #66 finally visit Pittsburgh on Friday night. Even our Penguins blog is telling fellow fans to not boo him just because he happens to wear Mario Lemieux’s number. What an awful look that will be.
We’ve already prewritten a post.
