Murphy is coming off of his best NFL season in 2016.

Murphy was drafted by Washington in the second round of the 2014 draft, and he is coming off of his best statistical season in 2016. Murphy finished the season with 47 tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles.
The team tweeted the following on Friday afternoon:
Murphy started eight games for Washington in his rookie season, racking up 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. In 2015, he contributed 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
He gained weight over the 2016 offseason in order to transition to defensive end. Murphy gained about 30 pounds to get up to 290 for his new role. He ended up switching back to outside linebacker after Junior Galette’s torn Achilles left Washington without much depth at the position.
Murphy played in all 16 games for Washington last season, starting zero, but his impact on the field was felt.
