Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones sprained his big toe in Week 13, and though the team was quick to downplay the sprain, it affected him throughout the last several weeks of the season. On Monday, Jones announced that he had undergone successful surgery to repair the damage.
Julio Jones says his foot surgery was ‘a success’
Jones was hindered by a toe sprain for the last several weeks of the season.

Jones suffered the toe injury in Week 13, and he missed Atlanta’s matchups against the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Weeks 14 and 15 as a result. He returned to the field for Weeks 16 and 17 against the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints, despite remaining limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursdays of those weeks.
After a Wild Card bye, Jones took the field in the divisional round to face the Seattle Seahawks. He left the game early after tweaking the toe injury.
“I got a little snag and I was like, ‘let’s go check it out.’” Jones said. “I mean, it’s fine. I’ll be ready to go (for the NFC Championship).”
Jones was able to play in Atlanta’s NFC Championship win over the Green Bay Packers and in Super Bowl 51. Despite playing through an injury, Jones was able to do some pretty phenomenal things against the Patriots.
The Falcons have maintained all along that Jones’ injury isn’t turf toe, but turf toe is a toe sprain. The team announced that Jones should be fully recovered to participate in training camp.
Jones finished the 2016 season with 1,409 receiving yards and six touchdowns. In the playoffs, he contributed 334 yards and three touchdowns.
