There’s a lot you don’t know about Myles Garrett. He’s a poet, he’s really into dinosaurs, and he loves Journey. But the one thing everyone knows is that the Cleveland Browns should take Garrett with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft. If the Browns decide to go in a different direction, Garrett says he’ll make them regret it.

Garrett said he’ll knock the Browns’ quarterback out of the game every time he faces them if Cleveland doesn’t take him first overall.

“And because if you don’t draft me No. 1, I will punish your team for the next 10 to 12 years,” Garrett said in an interview with ESPN The Magazine’s Sam Allpour. “I’ll knock your QB out of the game every time we play you, and I’ll have to kick the hell out of No. 1, whoever it is.”
There are plenty of reasons for the Browns to go with Garrett with the top pick. He’s a dominant pass rusher and should be an impact player from the start.
That’s how Garrett sees things, too.
“Because I’ll be a difference maker from day one,” Garrett said. “And I’m not gonna be in any trouble. I’m just gonna make plays and bring a good atmosphere to your organization. And I’m gonna start winning and winning now.”
During the owners’ meetings in March, head coach Hue Jackson wouldn’t say that the Browns are planning to draft Garrett. But everyone expects it to happen.
During a dinner with Jackson, Jackson didn’t make any promises, but said he’d be happy to take Garrett at No. 1.
Garrett made a plea, jokingly, to the Cowboys to trade up to the No. 1 spot to draft him. But he doesn’t care which team he plays for. He just wants to be the top pick.
“The Cowboys are my hometown team, but when push comes to shove, I want to go No. 1,” Garrett said. “I don’t want trades, wondering where my fate lies. Whoever has the first pick, just go ahead and take me. I have no allegiance. I want to go No. 1.”
When Garrett is selected, he won’t be there in Philadelphia. He’ll be at home, surrounded by the people he loves.
“I wanted to spend time with my family and friends because there are so many that would not be able to go to the draft but were also involved in my life,” Garrett said. “Who am I to say that you can’t be a part of this great moment?”
He’ll miss out on the opportunity to walk across that stage, put on a hat, hold up his jersey and hug Roger Goodell. That’s fine with Garrett.
“An awkward photo doing a side hug with the boss? I’d rather be hugging my family and friends,” Garrett said in the interview with ESPN The Magazine.
The Browns will almost certainly take Garrett with the first overall pick, so Garrett will have plenty to celebrate with his family and friends on draft night.
