Neither goal was met, and the Canucks fired Desjardins on Monday at the conclusion of the 2016-17 regular season, according to a report from TSN insider Bob McKenzie.
Desjardins finishes his career behind the Canucks bench with a 109-110-27 record and one playoff appearance in 2014-15. Vancouver hired him from the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars’ AHL affiliate, where he won the Calder Cup title in 2013-14. Before that, he was the Stars’ assistant coach and power play guide.
Vancouver wasn’t expected to compete for a Stanley Cup this year, but then it never seemed like Canucks management had the same expectations as the rest of us. Plenty of intriguing names are on the coaching market, including veterans like Ken Hitchcock and Lindy Ruff and 2015-16 Jack Adams winner Gerard Gallant.
