Former Memphis stars Dedric and K.J. Lawson transferring to Kansas
The highly talented and highly sought-after brothers will wrap up their college careers playing for Bill Self.

Dedric Lawson may have been the most highly sought-after available transfer in the country this offseason. The 6’9 sophomore guard averaged 19.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in 2016-17, earning him First Team All-AAC honors. As a freshman, his 17 double-doubles tied Keith Lee’s school record.
After an Achilles injury cut his 2015-16 campaign short, K.J. Lawson averaged 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds as a redshirt freshman this past season. His performance earned him the same AAC Newcomer of the Year Award that his brother had won a year earlier.
The news of the Lawson brothers’ commitment came just hours after their father, Keelon Lawson, told a Memphis radio station that his sons had narrowed their list of schools to Kansas, Duke, Ole Miss, and Iowa State. Keelon Lawson was originally hired as an assistant by former Memphis head coach Josh Pastner, but was reassigned to the role of director of player personnel after Tubby Smith took the program over. He said Monday that he’s no longer interested in a college assistant position.
Both Lawson brothers will have to sit out the 2017-18 season per NCAA transfer rules.
