Mike Mayock’s latest positional rankings are out, and strong pro day performances have several prospects’ stock on the rise. Clemson’s Deshaun Watson takes over the top spot at the quarterback position, with former No. 1 DeShone Kizer falling all the way to No. 4.
Deshaun Watson tops Mitchell Trubisky in Mike Mayock’s newest 2017 NFL draft rankings
Strong pro day performances helped several players in the third version of Mayock’s rankings.

There are some other big shakeups on Mayock’s rankings, including the addition of Joe Mixon to the running backs list and the shift of Alabama’s Cam Robinson from the interior offensive line list to the top of the tackle rankings.
Quarterback
Watson boosted his stock with a solid pro day performance, and he jumps to the No. 1 spot after appearing at No. 2 in Mayock’s last grouping. Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes each move up a spot, with Kizer plummeting to No. 4. Davis Webb remains the fifth option in Mayock’s view. Mocking the Draft’s Dan Kadar’s rankings are similar, but Kadar has Mahomes at No. 4 and Kizer at No. 3.
- Deshaun Watson
- Mitchell Trubisky
- Patrick Mahomes II
- DeShone Kizer
- Davis Webb
Running back
Kadar and Mayock differ on this running back class. Mayock’s rankings didn’t change much from his last version, except for Samaje Perine falling out of the top five. Joe Mixon and Curtis Samuel made the list with a tie for No. 5.
Kadar has Dalvin Cook ranked at the top, followed by Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara and Samuel. Mixon is No. 6 in Kadar’s rankings, though he notes that Mixon may fall off some teams’ draft boards altogether because he was caught on video punching a woman in the face.
- Leonard Fournette
- Christian McCaffrey
- Dalvin Cook
- Alvin Kamara
- Joe Mixon, Curtis Samuel
Wide receiver
Mike Williams showed out at Clemson’s pro day, and he gets bumped to the top of Mayock’s rankings. John Ross, who made an impression when he set a new 40-yard dash record at the combine, comes in at No. 2, and Corey Davis, who had been ranked at the top, falls to No. 3. Davis might be the best receiver in this class, but he recently underwent ankle surgery and did not work out at the combine or pro day.
Kadar has Williams at No. 1, also, with Davis second and Ross third. The top three receivers in this group are close, according to Kadar, and just have different skill sets. Williams is physical, Ross is speedy, and Davis is the more precise route runner.
- Mike Williams
- John Ross
- Corey Davis
- Zay Jones
- JuJu Smith-Schuster, Cooper Kupp
Tight end
The only change to Mayock’s rankings in the tight end group is the addition of Jordan Leggett, the 6’5, 258-pound prospect out of Clemson.
In Kadar’s latest two-round mock, he has O.J. Howard going to the Bills at No. 10. David Njoku is the second tight end off the board to the Dolphins at No. 17, and Evan Engram goes to the Giants in the second round.
- O.J. Howard
- David Njoku
- Evan Engram
- Gerald Everett
- George Kittle, Jordan Leggett
Offensive tackle
Mayock previously had Cam Robinson listed with the interior linemen, but he’s not only listed with the tackles this time, he’s taken the top spot from Ryan Ramczyk out of Wisconsin. Ramczyk is still the first tackle off the board in Kadar’s most recent two-round mock.
- Cam Robinson
- Ryan Ramczyk
- Garrett Bolles
- Taylor Moton
- Antonio Garcia
Interior offensive line
Robinson was ranked second by Mayock among interior offensive line prospects, but now that he’s at the top of the tackle group, these rankings look a little different. Forrest Lamp retains the top spot, and Dan Feeney, Dion Dawkins and Pat Elflein all move up one. Dorian Johnson out of Pitt is the new addition on the list, and he’s got great length and size for the position and is a reliable run-blocker.
- Forrest Lamp
- Dan Feeney
- Dion Dawkins
- Pat Elflein
- Ethan Pocic, Dorian Johnson
Interior defensive line
Jonathan Allen stays at the top of the list, and rightfully so. SB Nation’s Stephen White says Allen is a prospect that 31 teams are going to be sorry they missed out on in the first round. But after Allen, Mayock changed these rankings quite a bit.
Chris Wormley was ranked fifth by Mayock on his last list, and he jumps all the way to No. 2. He’s a reliable run-stopper who could come in and be a starter right away. Malik McDowell and Caleb Brantley remain third and fourth, and Larry Ogunjobi falls to fifth. Alabama’s Dalvin Tomlinson, who is perhaps the most interesting prospect in this draft, makes his first appearance in Mayock’s rankings, tied for fifth with Ogunjobi.
- Jonathan Allen
- Chris Wormley
- Malik McDowell
- Caleb Brantley
- Larry Ogunjobi, Dalvin Tomlinson
Edge rusher
It’s no surprise that Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas, and Derek Barnett still occupy the top three spots here. There was only one change to Mayock’s list, with Alabama’s Tim Williams dropping out of the top five and Charles Harris taking his place at No. 5.
Dan Kadar’s top four edge rushers are the same as Mayock’s, but he has Malik McDowell ranked at No. 5, while Mayock has McDowell ranked with the interior defensive linemen.
- Myles Garrett
- Solomon Thomas
- Derek Barnett
- Takkarist McKinley
- Charles Harris
Linebacker
There were no changes to Mayock’s rankings at the linebacker position. The drama surrounding Reuben Foster being sent home from the combine after an altercation with medical staff has died down and shouldn’t impact the top linebacker prospect’s stock.
Kadar’s rankings are almost identical to Mayock’s, but he has Alabama’s Ryan Anderson ranked fifth on his list, while Mayock has Florida’s Alex Anzalone. Anderson is reliable and versatile. Bama used him to rush the passer from the edge, and he was good at it, with 19.5 sacks and 40 tackles for loss.
- Reuben Foster
- Haason Reddick
- Jarrad Davis
- Zach Cunningham
- Alex Anzalone
Cornerback
Mayock has Ohio State teammates Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley ranked at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport notes that scouts see them as 1a and 1b options. They’re close in terms of talent and potential. Mayock previously had Conley ranked at No. 4, so that’s a big jump.
Kadar doesn’t quite agree. He has Lattimore ranked at the top, with Marlon Humphrey at No. 2 and Conley at No. 3. Tre’Davious White is also his No. 4, but he has Sidney Jones ranked fifth. Jones suffered an Achilles injury during his pro day, and as a result, he’s on Mayock’s special exceptions list.
- Marshon Lattimore
- Gareon Conley
- Marlon Humphrey
- Tre’Davious White
- Adoree’ Jackson, Kevin King
Nickel
The nickel prospects haven’t changed since Kadar’s last rankings. Budda Baker and Chidobe Awuzie remain on top of the list.
- Budda Baker
- Chidobe Awuzie
- Jourdan Lewis
- Desmond King
- Damontae Kazee
Safety
Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers was the top safety prospect on Mayock’s last rankings, and he tumbles to No. 3, while Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker move up. Kadar’s top three safeties are the same as Mayocks, while he has Budda Baker — a better fit for the nickel role, according to Mayock — ranked fourth on his list, with Obi Melifonwu rounding out the top five.
- Jamal Adams
- Malik Hooker
- Jabrill Peppers
- Obi Melifonwu
- Marcus Williams
Special exceptions (injuries)
The biggest additions here are Fabian Moreau, Kendall Beckwith and Chad Kelly. Moreau tore a pectoral muscle during UCLA’s pro day. Beckwith is coming off a torn ACL he suffered last season, and Chad Kelly is facing yet another setback after undergoing surgery to repair a wrist injury from pro day.
- Sidney Jones, CB
- Fabian Moreau, CB
- Jake Butt, TE
- Kendell Beckwith, LB
- Chad Kelly, QB
