The Tennessee Titans released veteran cornerback Jason McCourty on Thursday. McCourty was the longest-tenured player on the Titans, but the two sides were unable to redo his deal, according to Tom Pelissero.
Jason McCourty’s release could mean Titans pick a cornerback in 2017 NFL draft
The Titans may have tipped their hand in releasing McCourty.

His release could also signal which way the Titans are leaning in the draft. This year’s cornerback draft class is loaded, and the Titans have the No. 5 pick overall. Based on a roundup of the countless mock drafts that you’ve seen since the offseason started, Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore has been mocked to them the most.
The Titans could also be considered to be in the race for Richard Sherman or Malcolm Butler now as well. They own the No. 5 and No. 18 picks in the draft, and could possibly make a trade for one of the veteran corners.
Music City Miracles pointed out that McCourty had seen a decrease in snaps, trailing both Valentino Blake and Brice McCain in mid-December. Blake and McCain are not the corners that the Titans want to make their starters moving forward, so making a selection in the draft makes sense.
McCourty played in 14 games, making 68 tackles, defending 12 passes, and coming away with two interceptions.
He thanked the Titans organization and others in a statement on Twitter:
McCourty’s twin brother Devin plays for the Patriots, and Jason has been linked to the Patriots in the past. This might be their opportunity to finally play on the same team.
