Russell Westbrook posted the fastest playoff triple-double in the last 20 years

He also joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to record three straight playoff triple-doubles.

If you thought Russell Westbrook was finished breaking records, you haven’t been paying much attention to this season.

Westbrook recorded his third consecutive playoff triple-double, posting 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the first half of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Game 4 showdown against the Houston Rockets on Sunday. In doing so, he recorded the fastest playoff triple-double in the last 20 seasons, according to ESPN.

Westbrook also became the first player since the 1983-84 season to record three straight playoff triple-doubles. Magic Johnson, Fat Lever, Baron Davis, and Jason Kidd each recorded two straight in that time span.

In fact, Westbrook joined elite company. The only other player to post three consecutive playoff triple-doubles in NBA history was Wilt Chamberlain, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Westbrook, who was already staring eye-to-eye with the greats, is now a man among giants.

It’s another notch in the Thunder guard’s historic season. Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson’s regular season triple-double record, picking up 42 while leading Oklahoma City to the sixth seed in the Western Conference. He joined Robertson as the only players in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season, and also joined the Big O and Nate “Tiny” Archibald as the only players in history to average 30 points and 10 assists for a season.

Westbrook’s third straight playoff triple-double is just the icing on the cake, and he’ll need to be even better if the Thunder hope to upset the Rockets in the first round.
