Jay Cutler’s agent says the quarterback isn’t ready to retire just yet

There were retirement rumblings surrounding Cutler, but he plans on coming back for another NFL season.

Jay Cutler’s NFL career isn’t over yet. On Tuesday afternoon, Cutler’s agent Bus Cook told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the free agent quarterback isn’t ready to call it quits yet.

“Jay wants to play football. He never has mentioned retirement to me,” Cook told Schefter. “Jay Cutler, as far as I know, is ready to play and wants to play, and his skill set is as good as any quarterback in the league.”

One of the reasons retirement rumors have been floating around with regards to Cutler is because he’s been clearly enjoying his offseason. He even had pictures of his butt make the rounds thanks to his wife Kristin Cavallari.

Cutler will be 34 next season, and is coming off a rather dismal 2016 campaign. He started just five games thanks to injuries as the Bears went 3-13, winning just one of his starts.

He’s never quite panned out the way the Bears have hoped since he arrived in 2009 from Denver. He took the Bears to an NFC Championship in 2010, but they have won just a single playoff game since his arrival.

Now, he’ll be seeking a new home for the 2017 season. Teams like the Texans, Jets, 49ers, and Broncos are still looking for quarterback help going into next season, and could possibly be landing spots for Cutler.

Under the right circumstances, Cutler may still be able to be effective in the NFL. He still has a strong arm, and while his bad decisions can be frustrating for whatever team he’s playing for, it’s certainly a better option than others.

He’s completed nearly 65 percent of his passes as recently as 2015, so he might just be worth the risk for an NFL franchise.
