Moments after Mr. Irrelevant, Chad Kelly, was selected by the Denver Broncos to close out the 2017 NFL draft, an undrafted free agency frenzy began. Players who didn’t hear their names called over the past three days fielded calls from teams about a shot at fulfilling their dreams in the NFL.
Justin Forsett and other NFL players offer encouragement to undrafted free agents
Hundreds of players who didn’t hear their names called in the draft still have a shot at their NFL dreams.

There are many current players who got their starts as undrafted free agents, and a few of them took to Twitter to encourage guys who weren’t drafted.
Justin Forsett was a seventh rounder, so he knows how it feels to sit through round after round, wondering if an NFL opportunity will materialize.
Charles James, an undrafted free agent who was a fan favorite on Hard Knocks with the Houston Texans in his second season in the league, offered encouragement to all of those players waiting for a call after the draft ended.
Brian Poole, the Florida product who got his shot as an undrafted free agent last year with the Falcons, was integral to the team’s Super Bowl run.
And Poole’s teammate, Taylor Gabriel, made a name for himself in Atlanta this season. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Abilene Christian University before the 2014 season.
Five-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady — stop me if you’ve heard this, but he was a sixth round pick — offered a reminder that it doesn’t matter how a player gets his start. Once they’re on the roster, they’re part of the team.
Fabian Washington didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called on draft night. Washington was drafted 23rd overall by the Raiders back in 2005. Still, he understands an undrafted player’s mindset.
