Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been not been hired as the running backs coach at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, the school said Monday afternoon via USA Today.

Jane McManus received a text message from Rice denying that he had accepted a position as well:

ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported earlier in the afternoon that Rice had accepted a position by the school, which was later refuted.

Rice was arrested in February of 2014 for assaulting his then-girlfriend and now wife, Janay Rice. After video surfaced of Rice punching his wife and dragging her unconscious from an elevator, he was suspended two games by the NFL.

Before the start of the 2014 season, the Ravens released him, and he would receive an indefinite suspension from the NFL later that day. He has not played in the NFL since.

Since then, Rice has been attempting to fix his image, and says he has dedicated himself to raising domestic violence awareness.

In January of 2016, Rice served as a coach during the NFL Players Association’s Collegiate Bowl, along with Priest Holmes and Mike Martz. More recently, Rice has talked about decision-making with younger players, like he did at Ohio State in early March.

Rice’s ties to Don Bosco Prep come in the way of a former teammate, Mike Teel. Teel played quarterback for Rutgers from 2005-08, with Rice as his running back for three seasons. Teel took over as head coach of the New Jersey powerhouse in February.
