The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 6, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. There will be dresses, hats, parties, and mint juleps to be found. And -- oh yes, — the fastest two minutes in sports as some of the top three-year-olds in the world run their way to the history book in front of more than 150,000 watching in person and millions more at home.

The 2017 Kentucky Derby itself is set for a post time of 6:46 p.m. if you want to tune in at the last minute, but why do that when you can celebrate and enjoy an entire week when everyone’s attention turns to one of the oldest and most storied races in American sports?

Here’s what you need to know this week.

When is the Kentucky Derby post position draw?

11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3. You can follow it live on Kentucky Derby Facebook and Twitter

Who’s the betting favorite?

This year seems more open than many, making betting both more difficult and more interesting. But Always Dreaming and Classic Empire are co-favorites at 4/1 as of Monday afternoon.
