Mitchell Trubisky drove to Bears camp in his grandmother’s 1997 Toyota Camry, and I applaud him for it

Mitchell Trubisky is driving his grandma’s Camry. Smart move.

Why the Chicago Bears traded up from the third to the second pick in the 2017 NFL draft to select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is still kind of a head scratcher. But there’s nothing curious about the rookie quarterback’s choice in cars.

He reported for work in his grandmother’s Toyota Camry, a very sensible choice for a vehicle.

A car serves one function — getting you from point A to point B. In selecting an automobile, it is my personal feeling that the two most important factors are reliability and fuel efficiency. The trusty Camry checks both of those boxes, and it has the consumer and industry recognition to prove it.

There are many other vehicles like the Camry that Trubisky could’ve shown up in and also won my praise, a Honda Accord, the Ford Focus, etc. All very practical vehicles to own. And since he’s young and childless, he doesn’t need to worry much about space. It’s refreshing to see a young man taking advantage of that fact.

Lastly, let’s not overlook that it’s his grandma’s car. Not only is he saving money on gas, he’s not making a car payment!

You know whose car isn’t losing 30 percent of its value as soon as he drives it off the lot? Mitchell Trubisky, that’s who.

Just more money in his pocket to pay off his offensive linemen with Casio watches, 32-inch televisions (780i resolution), XBox 360s and other consumer ephemera to entice them into keeping him upright.

Scouting reports praised this guy’s smarts in the huddle; his practical sensibilities only underscore that. I applaud Mitchell Trubisky’s choice in cars. Bravo, young man, bravo.
