The Format
The top eight teams from each conference automatically gets a bid for the NCAA championship tournament. That provides the top eight seeds, with the other eight appearances decided by a committee.
They evaluate teams with a win/loss record of .500 or better that has played at least 10 games. There is a long list of selection criteria for the other eight teams, from record against ranked teams to head-to-head competition to the actual locations of the teams. That’s right, travel is a factor in deciding who makes it into the lacrosse tournament.
