The NCAA softball tournament officially begins with Regionals on May 19, but before that can kick off, we have to learn which teams have been chosen to face off this year. We’ll find that out on Sunday, when the selection show airs at 10 p.m. ET.
NCAA softball tournament 2017: Selection show time, TV schedule, and live stream for bracket unveiling
The slate of teams for this year’s NCAA softball tournament will be finalized on Sunday.

The tournament will feature 64 teams, and 32 have automatically qualified by winning their conference tournaments. The other 32 will be announced during the selection show.
Even though so many teams are already eligible, anything can happen in the tournament. The Florida Gators are the top-ranked team in the nation, and they didn’t automatically qualify this year after being unseated in the SEC tournament in a 2-0 shutout against Ole Miss.
Last year’s winners, the Oklahoma Sooners, are back in the mix this season. Oklahoma finished the season ranked sixth in the nation with a 47-8 record.
The action will start with Regionals, which will be held across 16 campus sites and will run through May 21. Regionals feature a four-team, double-elimination competition at each campus site.
Next up is Super Regionals and a switch to a best-of-three format. Super Regionals will be held at eight campus sites around the nation, and each site will host two teams battling it out for three games to see which teams will move on to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
The Women’s College World Series starts on June 1, and it will be held at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The eight winners from Super Regionals will square off in a double-elimination tournament, and the last two teams standing will take each other on in a best-of-three matchup to see who will be crowned national champions.
