Maryland defeated Ohio State in the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament championship game, 9-6 on Monday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The Terrapins were ranked No. 1 heading into the tournament and Ohio State was ranked No. 3. It’s the first lacrosse national championship for Maryland in 42 years, dating back to 1975. The Terrapins had played in nine championship games in that time but this was their first win.

Tim Rotanz of Maryland led all scorers with a hat trick, including the first goal of the game. Maryland allowed Ohio State to score twice in the first 10 minutes, but the Buckeyes finished with only six goals over the entire game thanks to tough defense from the Terrapins.
Maryland finished the season 16-3, and defeated Denver in the semifinals, 9-8. Denver had defeated Maryland in the title game in 2015, but this time Maryland was able to get their revenge. You can see the full bracket of the tournament here.
